Annual Report from HOPE worldwide (PNG)

The Papua New Guinea Annual Report for 2010 has been completed. You will see that all programs have continued and strengthened despite these difficult international financial times. We thank everyone for there steadfast support.

We have now been helping in PNG for 17 years. Improvements in health indices only come with long-term efforts. Whilst we are just starting with diabetes, the work we and others have done in tuberculosis control has lead to sustained improvements in and around Port Moresby, and this model is being extended to other provinces. It will be decades before this war is won, but we are on the way. Even more promising is the battle against HIV/AIDS – it looks like the prevalence rate is peaking at around 0.9%. Whilst this is still high, and many new cases occur each week, this is still an achievement given the dire predictions in the past.

Likewise in education the impact of our school library and IT work, school student sponsorship and non-formal school will not be clearly seen for decades, but as you will see from the Annual Report, already there are now outstanding young professionals who have been supported by our work.

It is approaching the end of the financial year – tax deductible donations are always welcome.
